Katy Perry has tied Michael Jackson’s record for the most No. 1 singles from the same album. The pop star accomplished the prestigious title when her latest song Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F) got to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
It is her fifth hit from her album Teenage Dream and she now shares the joint honour with Michael Jackson’s Bad album which was released in 1987.
But did she cheat her way to the top? Some commenter’s have pointed out some of the ways she got her #1’s to #1
The studio version of Last Friday Night was unable to get to #1 alone so she released an remix a few days ago and for “charting purposes” it charted under the name “Last Friday Night”. She also reduced the price of her songs to 69c in a desperate bid to try and get to #1.
Michael Jackson NEVER did this. He never released new remixes to help him get higher in the charts nor did he have to lower his prices. I have no idea if Katy got the other #1’s fairly (If she did, that’s really awesome and congrats to her!) but one thing for sure is that she does not deserve this title until she is able to get one more #1 fairly and without pulling this crap off.
What do you think did she cheat her way to equal Jacksons record?
Katy’s other tracks that topped the charts from the album are California Gurls, Teenage Dream, Firework and ET.
Michael’s songs that made it to number one are I Just Can’t Stop Loving You, Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Man in the Mirror and Dirty Diana.

It’s likely that this year’s Grammy Awards will be best remembered for the triumph of underdogs in key categories. Indie artists Arcade Fire took home the Album of the Year prize for The Suburbs, beating out best-selling discs by Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum and Eminem, while jazz vocalist Esperanza Spalding unexpectedly beat out Justin Bieber, Mumford & Sons, Drake and Florence and the Machine for Best New Artist.
The ceremony was packed with memorable performances this year. Here’s a look at some of the highlights.
Top nominee Eminem won Rap Album for Recovery and Rap Solo Performance for “Not Afraid,” though he was shut out in every other category. Jay-Z won two awards — Rap Song for “Empire State of Mind” with Alicia Keys, and Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “On to the Next One” with Swizz Beatz.
In the rock categories, Paul McCartney won Solo Rock Vocal Performance for the live recording of “Helter Skelter” on his Good Evening New York City album, while Neil Young’s “Angry World” won for Rock Song and Muse’s The Resistance won for Rock Album. The Black Keys took home two Grammys – Rock Performance by a Duo or Group for their song “Tighten Up” and Alternative Music Album for Brothers.
It should come as no surprise that Lady Gaga’s performance of her new single “Born This Way” was the evening’s most visually stunning and bizarre spectacle:
Bob Dylan joined Mumford and Sons and the Avett Brothers for a medley of acoustic numbers including his classic “Maggie’s Farm”:
Mick Jagger made his first-ever live appearance at the Grammy Awards with tribute to the late Solomon Burke backed up by Raphael Saadiq and his band:
Whereas most everyone else on the Grammy stage went big and bold, Lady Antebellum opted for a stripped-down, understated medley of Teddy Pendergrass’ “If Don’t Know Me By Now” and their hits “American Honey” and “Need You Now”:
Cee Lo Green put on what could be the night’s silliest and most colorful performance with a rendition of his song “Fuck You” — err, “Forget You,” sorry — decked out in a peacock suit and backed up by Gwyneth Paltrow and a stage full of puppets from the Jim Henson Company:
Arcade Fire performed two songs at the ceremony — a blistering version of “Month of May” with a bunch of guys riding around on bikes, and “Ready to Start” after they won for Album of the Year:

Tickets to Katy Perry’s upcoming New Zealand show sold out in just 30 minutes this morning, forcing the chart-topping hitmaker to announce a second show.
Perry, who recently wed British comedian Russell Brand in India, will now perform two dates at Auckland’s Vector Arena, on May 7 and May 8.
The pop star is known for her tight-fitting outfits and controversial hits like I Kissed A Girl. She is touring on the back of her recently-released album Teenage Dream.
“I am ecstatic to be able to see the glittering faces and also to go to New Zealand for the first time,” Perry said.
“I love going somewhere new because there’s a special feeling in the air. It’s like when you meet someone you love for the first time.”
Perry promised Kiwi fans that her performance will be an extravaganza.
“I want it to be sensory overload. I’m figuring out the nuances, because I have these wild ideas, but they’re not really traditional concert things,” she told the Sunday Star-Times.
Tickets for the second show are on sale now.

Dumped from Sesame Street, US pop star Katy Perry has taken her revenge on American television.
The California Gurls singer, whose guest appearance was deemed too sexy for the long-running children’s show last week, has received a much warmer welcome from comedy sketch favourite Saturday Night Live overnight.
Perry filmed a segment for SNL’s mock chat show Bronx Beat, dressed in a skin-tight Elmo T-shirt, cut open to reveal the cleavage which offended YouTube viewers and saw her booted from Sesame Street’s New Year’s Eve episode line up.
The 25-year-old had filmed a musical number with Elmo for the show but parents complained her low-cut dress and ample cleavage was inappropriate for youngsters when the clip was previewed online.
In her poke at producers, Perry last night played the role of library volunteer Maureen, who had been told by staff to wear “looser-fitting clothing” to work around children.
Bouncing up and down on the Bronx Beat couch, a buxom Perry was consoled by hosts Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph, who told her “boobs feed babies, alright.”
I see CSI last night and there’s a dead guy with worm in his eye and we can’t watch the top of boobs?” Rudolph said.
“So dumb, America.”
Perry took to Twitter on Friday to express her surprise at being axed from Sesame Street. Her fiance Russell Brand has also used the social networking site to joke about the decision.
“Sesame Street will NOT be brought to you by the number 34 or the letter D,” he wrote before asking Perry: “Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sex-with-me Street?”

In what is sure to be a professional first, singer Katy Perry’s breasts appear to have got in the way of a television career.
The US pop star has become the latest celebrity to film a segment for children’s show Sesame Street, re-recording her 2009 chart hit Hot ‘N Cold with new, child-friendly lyrics.
The two minute clip, which is yet to go to air and features Perry chasing around puppet favourite Elmo, was posted on YouTube on Monday and is already nudging 1 million views.
While Perry’s excruciatingly hammy acting has made her the butt of internet jokes all week, it seems millions of children will be spared her performance following complaints from parents over her “inappropriate” cleavage-baring outfit. – stuff.co.nz
